As usual, Ed Miller gives you great information and explains it well. But for a $50 book, I was extremely annoyed by the seemingly endless errors. Typos, grammatical errors, wrong pot sizes and once he's even telling you a hand he played at 2-5 and he makes a straight flush on the river, which he says is the worst card for him (could be if he thinks it hurts his chances of getting paid off) but doesn't explain, then later he says he would have folded it to a raise, so you know it was another error in the text. When you don't understand something, you wonder if it's because you don't understand it or if it's because of yet another error. There's a great example he gives of two hands with the same board but that run out in a different order and how it changes the dynamic against a LAG. But I'm somewhat confused by it and wonder if I'm missing something or if the author/editor did.The organization of the book is poor as well. It's a collection of various exploitable situations and common betting lines or player tendencies he's observed. It lacks the usual flow and theoretical underpinning we're accustomed to from Miller. I think he could have said a lot more about "playing the player" but the various errors, short length and $50 price tag make me think he's given up and just wants to make as much money with as little effort as possible. He even plugs his other book a couple times and at one point says jokingly (but you get the sense mostly serious) you'll have to buy his next book for further explanation.
I still give the book 4 stars because applying the information should make you much more than $50 and it really gets you thinking about when and how to adjust your game to exploit your opponents, which I think is the most important skill you can have in no-limit. But come on Ed, if you're reading this review, take a look at how flawless Winning Small Stakes was written and compare it to this one. I think you know you've slipped and I just hope you put more effort and concern in to your next book, which I'll probably buy even if you don't.

So far, I am very happy with purchasing this book. I am about 1/2 way done with this book. I like the fact that he gives great and detailed information on the thought process of certain players as well as how to beat them playing different ways. He teaches you how to better adjust to the table, depending on how they act. It is very much worth a read for beginner and advanced players. Very glad I got this book. If you are having a hard time at the cash game tables, this book can significantly help you with maximizing profits and making yourself a harder target to lose profits from.

Just finished the book. Extremely well written. Had great concepts that were very much distinguished. Very good explinations of the ideas as well as good review sections. Some of it went over my head to be honest. I am going to have to re-read this book a few times to really get a very strong grip on the full out message that he has said about cash games. I have been looking for an extremely good cash game book to read. This one is definitly a very good cash game book. I would also suggest (As I have ordered it, but not read it) to get his other book. I can't remember what it's called, but I ordered it. It's about reading poker hands. I think that will possibly help one out very much. His writing style is very easy to follow, and he tries his best not to overcomplicate things, although some of the topics are a bit nauseating at times due to the fact it's a great deal of information to take in. I would HIGHLY recommend this book if you have some experience in poker, understand some lingo, and are ready to really take poker serious.
Really great book. Worth every penny. Drastically improved my preflop game, as it helped open and balance my ranges. Also really helped with locating weaknesses in players you feel you can't beat. Ed always is great at breaking down complexity to simplicity, and applying it to real world situations. I've found at the 2-5 level his strategies really shine.
Ed Miller's analysis is solid, his books are readable for all levels of players, and I enjoy his poker books as well as or better than others. Ed's poker writing is recommended reading if you want to analyze your own play and prepare for opponents.
Easily the best poker book I've read in years. Miller's approach to low stakes cash games is clear and easy to understand (after you re-read some sections a few times), yes it seems kinda spewy at first but if you can listen and execute it works. Don't get me wrong you still have to "work" at your game and it takes some time and some losing sessions to develop his line of thinking into your game and gaming environments But I have raked-in many pots I never would have before reading this book so it has more than paid for itself. I thought the book title was kind of corny which gives it a cover others might pass on, but this is a must read for low stakes casino cash games everywhere.
In today's game, at least at the casinos I infest, you don't see the same players so frequently that you can take your time figuring out what they do wrong. These tactics work well when you know what errors your opponent is likely to make. In the live game, you won't have stats on a headsup display. So it may seem difficult to implement these ideas.
However, it _is_ possible to find flaws in an opponent's game within one session. You have to watch hands in which you are not involved. You have to watch them carefully. You have to realize, as was pointed out in Ankenman and Chen's _The Mathematics of Poker_ that you can make good approximations of how someone plays on only a few pieces of evidence.
Before you figure someone out, you can follow the advice that Miller gives in his book about the one percent or whatever your usual tactics are.
By the way, it would be useful if Miller would advise us about the order in which to read his books.
